Kenya: Twiga Foods Sacks 130 Sales Agents, Cites Poor Performance

Nairobi — Agri-tech firm Twiga Foods sacked 130 sales agents last month for what it attributed to poor performance, Business Daily reported, quoting the firm's Chief Executive Officer Peter Njonjo.

Njonjo said that the company will now engage with independent sales agents whose sales are looking up.

In October last year, Twiga contracted independent sales representatives after employees on contracts were terminated in November last year.

Twiga uses technology to distribute affordable farm produce such as bananas, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, mangoes, and cabbages to small businesses in city estates.

With operations in Uasin Gishu, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Machakos, Nakuru, and Kiambu counties, the firm earlier said it served about 33,000 vendors every month.

Since its founding in 2014, Twiga has raised billions of shillings, including equity and loan deals, from international investors such as the International Finance Corporation.
