Nairobi — President William Ruto now says the government is willing to accept payment at market value from innocent Kenyans caught up in illegal deals involving public land.
Speaking during the flagging off of motor vehicles across the country to be used by Education officials, the head of state indicated that a detailed valuation will however have to be undertaken.
He further stated that those unable to pay will have to vacate the land.
"We are going to agree with them. We need the money to go and do the factory so we will deduct it from there at market value. So they need to pay us," he stated.
He however stressed that the government will not tolerate impunity with regard to public land.
"What we must get rid of in the whole of this is impunity. We cannot allow impunity in Kenya. We all must play by the rules, we are all equal before the law and so the people who are willing to negotiate should do so and have a settlement," he stated.
