South Africa: Operation Kukula (Shanela) Conducted At High Contact Crime Policing Precincts in Limpopo Secured the Arrest of 652 Suspects

- Various SAPS units across the province and other stakeholders jointly conducted operation Kukula (Shanela) from 19 February to 25 February 2024.

A total of 652 suspects were nabbed for various crimes including murder, attempted murder, rape, robberies, burglaries, illegal mining, assaults, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of drugs and malicious damage to property, among others.

Operations were activated through road blocks, patrols, stop and searches, and tracing of wanted suspects.

Some of the arrests achieved are illegal possession of firearm: eight, illegal possession of ammunition: seven, possession of dangerous weapon: 14, dealing in drugs: seven, possession of illicit cigarettes: eight, illegal dealing in liquor: 23, possession of drugs: 26, murder: five, rape: 13, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm: 72, malicious damage to property: 26, driving under the influence of liquor: eight, illicit mining: three and wanted suspects: 124.

Police confiscated five firearms, 45 rounds of ammunition, 237 858 counterfeit goods, eight dangerous weapons and 73114 grams of dagga.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, SAPS Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the operational members for working relentlessly and ensuring that crime is stabilised in our province.

The arrested suspects had already appeared before different Magistrate's Court across the province.

The Police investigations are still ongoing.
