Uganda: MP Ssemujju Demands Answers On U.S. Surveillance Aircraft

4 December 2024

Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has sounded the alarm on Uganda's security, urging the government to address concerns over an American surveillance aircraft violating Ugandan airspace on three separate occasions.

Speaking during Tuesday's parliamentary sitting, Ssemujju expressed dismay at the government's silence on this critical security matter, questioning whether Uganda is at war with the United States.

"It's shocking that the government has remained silent on this issue. We need to know what's going on and whether our country's sovereignty is being respected," Ssemujju said.

According to reports, the US surveillance aircraft was detected by Ugandan radar stations making unauthorized flights over Ugandan airspace on November 14, 15, and 26, 2024.

Ssemujju also raised concerns over the government's failure to present a report on the alleged abduction of Dr. Kiiza Besigye from Kenya.

In response, the Speaker of Parliament announced that the report would be tabled on Thursday, citing that the responsible ministers are currently out of the country.

The incident has sparked concerns about Uganda's national security and the government's handling of sensitive information.

Ssemujju's demands for transparency and accountability have brought the issue to the forefront of national attention.
