On 25 January 2011, Egyptian youth took to Cairo’s Tahrir Square to demand  basic rights and freedom from decades of authoritarian rule. Within a few days, this protest of thousands grew to millions across the country.

One year on, Thomson Reuters Foundation re-lives the event with a special multimedia documentary using Reuters award winning text, pictures and video.

“The Egyptian Revolution” captures the main events through the personal experience of one Egyptian woman and her family.

The sight of Tahrir square on fire, camels charging into protesters and news of cabinet reshuffles and political speeches are interwoven with the Kandil family’s frantic trips to the supermarket for supplies, panic over looters in their neighborhood and cautious hope for the birth of a better Egypt.

The documentary is appears in three parts: “The Flood”, “The Clash” and “The Fall”.
