Tanzania: Hopes of Finding Survivors in Ferry Disaster Diminish

In Zanzibar, hopes of finding alive more than 80 people still missing after a Tanzanian ferry enroute from Dar es Salaam sank near Zanzibar's main island Wednesday are fading. Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Ali Mohamed Shein, president of Zanzibar have since announced three days of national mourning. Kikwete has also ordered for investigations into the incident. Authorities suspended rescue operations at nightfall, Wednesday, and intensified efforts on Thursday using army helicopters, government troops and boats.
