More than one and a half thousand residents who've been displaced following a tornado which struck Vaal Marina in the Midvaal, south of Johannesburg, have been temporarily accommodated at shelters and local community centres. Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi today visited the area to assess the damage. Over 500 shacks were destroyed and 50 people injured when the windstorm ripped through the area on Monday night. Emergency services remain on high alert as the weather service predict more rainfall overnight.
