Government Demands Answers

- The Government of Liberia is actively engaging Ghanaian authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Austin Tengbeh, a 26-year-old Liberian citizen who died following an incident in the Lashibi Sakumono area of Accra, Ghana, on February 27, 2026.

According to an official release, the Government of Liberia, through its Embassy in Ghana, responded swiftly upon receiving information about the incident on February 28, 2026. The Embassy immediately contacted the Ghanaian authorities, including the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police, to seek clarification on the situation and assurance that appropriate investigative procedures were being followed.

The Liberian government reports that the Ghana Police Service has confirmed an active investigation is underway. Authorities have informed the Embassy that arrests have already been made in connection with the incident, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional individuals believed to be involved.

Preliminary information indicates that Mr. Tengbeh, a resident of the Spintex area, had gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred, leading to the events now under investigation.

Ghanaian authorities report that the police responded promptly to the scene and transported Mr. Tengbeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

"The Embassy has been in communication with individuals connected to the incident, members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and the appropriate Ghanaian authorities.

The Government is also making efforts to formally engage the next of kin of the deceased in order to provide appropriate consular assistance and support," the statement read.

The government pledged to continue to follow the matter closely and to remain actively engaged with Ghanaian authorities to ensure that the case proceeds in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia has extended its deepest condolences to Mr. Tengbeh's family, friends, and community. The government also assured the Liberian community in Ghana of its full commitment to pursuing the matter to its conclusion.
