China Avocado Deal Gets Reviewed in Kenya's Favour

Stringent entry rules, such as installation of machines and coolers for peeling and freezing the Hass avocados before exportation, had been revoked by the Chinese government, according to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri. Kenya became the first African country to export avocados to China following a trade deal that was signed when President Kenyatta met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing in April.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri hands over avocado and macadamia tree seedlings to farmers at Koimbi grounds in Kiharu, Murang'a County, on May 30, 2019.
