Nigeria Receives Covid-19 Vaccines as Online Registrations Begin

Nigeria is the third West African country to take delivery of AstraZeneca vaccines - 3,9 million doses- under the COVAX scheme, after Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire. The government has launched an online registration portal for vaccinations, with the health ministry confirming that the goal is to introduce the vaccine in a phased and equitable manner, based on advice from the World Health Organization. The vaccines are part of the overall 16 million doses to be delivered in batches over the next few months. Health workers at the forefront of the Covid-19 fight are expected to be the first recipients of the vaccine, followed by the elderly above 60 - 65 years and those with comorbidities. Nigeria has recorded 156,017 Covid-19 cases, 133,904 recoveries and 1,915 deaths.
