'Libya's Instability Perpetuates Illegal Arms Flow Into Nigeria'
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that "as long as Libya remains unstable, illegal arms and ammunition will continue to flow into the Sahel region of the African continent". Buhari was speaking at a State House event that hosted Mohammed Ibn Chambas, the outgoing special representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS). The president said the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi held a "grip on power in Libya for 42 years by recruiting armed guards from different countries, who then escaped with their weapons when the leader was killed.
