How Tanzania's New President Suluhu is Handling Covid-19

President Samia Hassan Suluhu has revealed plans for a committee of experts to review the country's Covid-19 response and advise the government. Suluhu says the country needs a "clear and understandable position on the pandemic so that it could make informed decisions". In 2020 under the leadership of the late John Magufuli, the government repeatedly said that the number of Covid-19 cases was down, although no official figures had been released since May 2020. Tanzania was then declared free of Covid-19, with Magufuli's administration casting doubt on the efficacy of vaccines while proposing the use of alternative therapies and local remedies.
