Rwanda Extends Lockdown By Five Days Amid Covid-19 Case Drop

The government has resolved that current measures, including a total lockdown in Kigali and some eight districts in the country, will be extended for five more days until July 31, 2021.

On July 17, 2021 capital city Kigali, together with Burera, Gicumbi, Kamonyi, Musanze, Nyagatare, Rubavu, Rwamagana and Rutsiro districts was placed under total lockdown for 10 days as the country battled a severe third wave.

Businesses including distribution and delivery services, marketplaces, retail stores vending food items and pharmacies, will continue to operate at 30% of their respective capacity.

The government says it is banking on its countrywide vaccination programme, with a goal to vaccinate at least 60% of its population by 2022.

As at July 26, 2021 Rwanda recorded 62,946 Covid-19 cases with 44,739 recoveries and 742 fatalities.
