Aid Deliveries Resume in Ethiopia's Tigray Province

Two trucks packed with medical items, emergency medicines and surgical equipment arrived at Tigray's main hospital in the regional capital, Mekele, on Tuesday afternoon, Deutsche Welle quotes the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as saying.

Earlier, the Ethiopian government sais aid deliveries to Tigray had resumed. The conflict between the Tigray People's Liberation Front and the Federal government unleashed a humanitarian crisis, with deliveries of food and medicine to the region often blocked by fighting.

The top military leadership of the Federal army and Tigrayan forces agreed to form a joint committee to "elaborate on the modalities for the implementation of comprehensive disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program." [PDF]

The parties also agreed to facilitate unhindered humanitarian access to all in need of assistance in Tigray, and the neighbouring regions, to facilitate the unhindered movement of humanitarian aid workers, and provide security guarantees for humanitarian aid workers and organizations as well as protection of civilians.
