African Teams Size Up Rivals In AFCON 2023 Group Stage

African football supremos attended the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw on Thursday October 12, 2023 at a glittering gala ceremony in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

The quartet of Mikel Obi, Didier Drogba, Sadio Mane, and Achraf Hakimi "served" as draw assistants at the event. Hosts Cote d'Ivoire will kick off the competition on January 13, 2024 against Guinea-Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Cote d'Ivoire will also play Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.

Patrice Motsepe, who is president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said in his speech: "I'd like to extend our deep gratitude to the government of Cote d'Ivoire. Thanks for your partnership and the great work you've been doing. We're convinced that the AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire will be the best ever."
