South Africa a Water-Stressed Country - 40th Driest in the World
Water is a basic human need and a fundamental resource essential to our existence. Challenges brought about by its scarcity remind us how it sustains our world. Lacking access to clean, reliable water sources, communities face challenges.
The absence of water amplifies disparities within societies making the addressing of water scarcity a priority because when there's a shortage of water, human life faces grave risks, including dehydration, illness from waterborne diseases, food scarcity, and overall diminished well-being.
South Africa is currently facing significant water and sanitation challenges that have persisted for many years. These challenges are complex and they have social, economic, and environmental implications. The government and various stakeholders are working round the clock to address these challenges through initiatives that aim to improve infrastructure, provide equitable access to clean water and sanitation, and promote sustainable water resource management, writes Sethi Ncube for allAfrica.
