Kenya to Host UNEP Session on Plastic Pollution

Nations are preparing to meet in Kenya for the United Nation Environment Programme's (UNEP) Third Session of Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution, scheduled to take place between November 13-19, 2023.

The meeting aims to place emphasis on reducing plastic pollution of the sea and to promote a new 'comprehensive approach that addresses the full life cycle of plastic'. According to UNEP's Finance Initiative, the volume of mismanaged plastics waste is projected to grow substantially to well over 250 million metric tons annually by 2040, leading to significant costs to the environment, human health and the economy.
