Tinubu Uses First Presidential Speech of 2024 to Make Promises

In his first New Year broadcast, President Bola Tinubu has offered Nigerians hope of a new dawn, saying that all the difficult decisions taken since he assumed office were in the overall interest of the country.

He says the removal of fuel subsidy was so that Nigerians could avoid "fiscal catastrophe", while admitting that the harsh economic realities were already taking its toll on the Nigerian people. Tinubu says the security situation in the country has improved since May 2023 when he was sworn in, however, he acknowledges that his administration has not solved all security challenges in Nigeria.
