Togo's Opposition Calls For Mass Protests Over Delayed Elections
The opposition has accused President Faure Gnassingbe of hijacking power in a bid to "rule indefinitely" following parliament's approval of a constitutional reform, which would switch the country from a presidential to a parliamentary system.
The move, they claim, is a ploy by the President to avoid facing voters at the polls. The new Constitution allows the president to be elected by Parliament - not by the Togolese population during elections.
