Mpox Cases Surge in Several African Countries

Kenya has declared an outbreak after a case was detected in a passenger traveling from Uganda to Rwanda at a border crossing in southern Kenya while the Central African Republic confirmed cases in several towns and villages, and new infections were reported in Bangui.

The highly infectious disease has also been detected in Rwanda and Burundi, while a new strain has been spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo. South Africa has recorded 20 cases, including two deaths.

The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat has called on EAC Partner States to educate their citizens on how to protect themselves and prevent the spread of Mpox.
