Former Steinhoff Finance Chief Gets 5 Years for Fraud After Deal

Steinhoff's former Chief Financial Officer, Ben la Grange, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, five suspended, after pledging guilty to one fraud charge involving R367 million.

The five years are suspended under the condition that La Grange be found not guilty of fraud during the suspension, and that he also testifies for the state in any further criminal prosecutions against Steinhoff directors, officers, and employees.

His conviction follows that of Gerhardus Burger (an associate of the late Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste), who received a five-year suspended sentence for insider trading after turning state witness.
