BRICS Summit 2025 - More Inclusion Urged For Africa #BRICS2025

Nigerian President Bola Tinubuhas called for a "fairer, more inclusive" world order that reflects the interests of emerging and low-income economies, "particularly in Africa". In a statement delivered on his behalf at the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, Tinubu said BRICS must not only be a bloc for emerging economies,"but also a beacon for emerging solutions".

Nigeria became the ninth "partner country" of BRICS in January 2025. BRIC was formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China. A year later, South Africa was invited to be a member, and the expansion to include South Africa resulted in the acronym BRICS. The category for partner countries was created at the 16th summit in Kazan, Russia, in 2024, with eight original members.

Often seen challenging Western dominance, BRICS currently has three African nations with full membership: South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt.

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa participated in the first session of the #BRICSSummit where he delivered an intervention under the theme Peace & Security, Reform of Global Governance.
