U.S. Revokes Visa Of Nigerian Nobel Laureate Soyinka

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has said he was "banned" from entering the U.S. after the revocation of his visa by the U.S. embassy in Nigeria. Soyinka said he is at a loss about what could be the reason for the sudden cancellation of his non-immigrant visa.

The playwright said the move has left him reflecting on his history with the U.S., noting that he doesn't have any past criminal record or "even a felony or misdemeanor to qualify for the revocation". Soyinka was due to participate in an event in the U.S.

Earlier this year, the U.S. tightened its visa policy for Nigerians and nationals of other African countries.. In July, the U.S. embassy in Nigeria announced that most non-immigrant visas would become single-entry with a three-month validity, down from five-year, multiple-entry permits.
