Doctors' Strike Paralyses Health Care Services in Nigeria

Healthcare services across Nigeria continue to be severely affected as a strike action called by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors enters its tenth day.

With more than 11,000 doctors from the association on strike, many patients have been left stranded as hospital services are paralyzed nationwide.

The group's president, Muhammad Suleiman, insists the strike will remain enforced until all 19 of their demands are met. Among their grievances are unpaid salary arrears, poor working conditions, inadequate staffing, excessive workload, and the lack of essential medical infrastructure, all of which the doctors argue have crippled healthcare delivery.

Across the country, from Lagos to Abuja to Niger state, patients have been reporting difficulty in accessing treatment as the operations of many hospitals have been drastically scaled down.
