South African Police Vow to Act After Xenophobic Attacks

The police minister's statement came after Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa engaged his South African counterpart to protest against widely circulated videos appearing to show xenophobic attacks against Ghanaian nationals. Describing the footage as "extremely disturbing", Ablakwa urged South African authorities to take prompt action.

"The South African Foreign Minister has expressed empathy with the victims and promised full-scale investigations into these depressing incidents," Ablakwa said via social media. He said diplomats at the Ghanaian mission have located the primary victim featured in the viral video and are currently providing consular assistance.
