ECOWAS, Industry Experts to Analyse West Africa's Investment Climate

Abuja - Nigeria — ECOWAS and industry experts will from February 2012 undertake a three-month project for data collection and analysis of West Africa's investment climate.

A meeting of ECOWAS Commission officials and private sector representatives held on 26th -27th January 2012 at the Commission's headquarters in Abuja, resolved that the project on investment climate monitoring system will be integrated into the Investment Policy Framework of the ECOWAS community. Addressing the meeting, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy, Prof. Lambert N. Bamba, highlighted the importance of a comprehensive and effective analysis of investment data for the ECOWAS common market.

The Director of Private Sector Directorate at the Commission, Mr. Alfred Braimah, who also spoke explained that the development of climate investment indicators would contribute to the attainment of regional goals and objectives including the ECOWAS Vision 2020 for a citizen centred Community. The analysis is expected to improve the understanding of factors affecting business activities and conditions in the ECOWAS region.

It is envisaged that 13 experts and consultants will conduct the survey and analysis using 127 indicators dealing with specific aspects of investment in West Africa.

Data from the study will benefit both local and foreign investors as well as government agencies, educational institutions and other public sector institutions. Additional information on the ECOWAS Investment Climate Monitoring System is available at www.bizclim.com
