Sibusiso Gcabashe has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for impersonating late Maskandi musician Khulekani 'Mgqumeni' Khumalo.

The Maskandi muso impersonator made headlines in 2012 after claiming to be the late musician, who died in 2009. He claimed to have returned from the dead after being turned into a zombie. Thousands of fans flocked to his house in KwaZulu-Natal believing he had been resurrected.

Gcabashe was arrested for fraud and later, police linked him to other crimes, including the rape of a teenager, kidnapping and assault. Police fingerprint experts said his prints did not match those of the late Mgqumeni.

Sibusiso Gcabashe was sentenced to five years for kidnapping, seven for impersonating Khumalo, 12 months for attempted escape from custody, and fifteen years for rape.

According to SA Breaking News, Gcabashe did not show even a slight bit of remorse throughout his trial.  He sang one of Khumalo's songs before he was led to the cells.
