Ghana: President Akufo-Addo Receives Jamaican Foreign Affairs Minister

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo received Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica today, Saturday 14th May 2020, at the Presidential Lodge in Peduase.

The Minister, who is on a tour of selected African Countries, called on the President to inform him of the Government of Jamaica's decision to nominate her as candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, and to seek Ghana's support for her candidature and presented to him her campaign material.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo - Addo in his response, welcomed Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith to Ghana and recalled the longstanding historical relations between Ghana and Jamaica. On the issue of her candidature for election as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, the President informed the Jamaican Foreign Minister that Ghana was in the process of consulting with the African member states and other member states of the Commonwealth on the issue, and that Ghana's position would be communicated through the usual diplomatic channels once a decision is made on the matter.

President Akufo -Addo congratulated the Minister on her nomination by her government for such a high-profile position and wished her luck with her campaign.
