Angola Handball Reaches Quarterfinals, Team Make History in Slovenia

Luanda — Angola national junior women's handball team face Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the Women's Junior Handball World Championship being held in Slovenia, in an unprecedented feat achieved by the African nation in this sport.

The Angolan team reached the semi-finals despite being defeated on Tuesday by Germany (21-33) in the round of 16, finishing group 3 in the second position with 4 points, the same as the leaders, Germany.

Moving to the next stage (quarter finals) of the championship, which is being disputed for the first time by 32 countries, makes Angola join, for now, the group of the eight best in the world.

The Angola national team lost in the opening game to Romania (23-26) beating the Czech Republic (36-25) and Lithuania (31-18).

In the second phase, divided in four groups with the same number of teams each, Angola defeated the host country 25-21, while Germany was beaten by the Czech Republic 20-24.
