Ghana: Rebuilding Gbese Is Imperative Now - Nii Ayi Bonte II

24 October 2023

The President of the Gbese Traditional Council (GTC), Dr Nii Ayi Bonte II, has appealed to all ruling houses under the Gbese stool to set aside their differences and join hands in the rebuilding of Gbese.

He said the need to rebuild Gbese was imperative now more than ever due to the strategic importance of Gbese to the Ga state.

"There is no contention to the fact that Gbese is the Adonten of the Ga state (GS) and as the Adonten, the path we chart will determine how the whole GS will move. I think this is the time for us to reassert our rightful place as an important stakeholder in the affairs of GS," he said.

Dr Nii Ayi Bonte also known as Nii Gbese made the appeal at a ceremony to welcome the head of family of the Nii Tetteh Ankamah/Dinsey We, Nii Tetteh Ankamah IV and his elders back into the fold of the GTC at his palace in Accra yesterday.

The return of the Nii Tetteh Ankamah/Dinsey We to the GTC gives credence to the reconciliatory and rebuilding processes initiated by Nii Ayi Bonte and the people of Gbese.

As part of the welcoming process, libation was poured to thank the gods as well as ask for their blessings in the reconciliation processes, also, a ram was slaughtered and the blood used to perform the necessary customary rites.

Nii Ayi Bonte who is also the Adonte of the GS expressed his gratitude to the gods for making the unity processes of Gbese successful and also thanked the family of the Nii Tetteh Ankamah/Dinsey We for their cooperation in bringing a lasting peace in the traditional area.

He noted that the return of the Tetteh Ankamah/Dinsey We to the council, was very refreshing since it offered hope to the people that Gbese was on course to regaining it past glory.

Nii Gbese explained that there were three ruling houses under the Gbese comprising the Gbese Shiawulu/Pleinshiaku We, which was the first ruling house, Nii Tetteh Ankamah/Dinsey We, the second ruling house and the Naa Onidin Akua/Akwete Krobo Saki We, the third ruling house.

These houses, he said constituted the cornerstones of the Gbese Paramountcy and their coming together now was very significant for the reorganisation and development of the traditional area.

He further explained that apart from the three ruling houses, there were other four auxiliary houses under the Gbese Stool whose roles and functions were very important to the complete reorganisation of the area.

The auxiliary, he said included the Nyan Abodiamo/Kreshie We, occupants of the Gbese Dzaase Stool, Ardey Akwa/Nii Armah Owusu Ahia We, occupants of the Akwashon Stool, Anerge/Okai Odibayo We, occupants of the Shipi Stool and Okaidjha/Afie We, where the Gbese Wulomo emanates from.

He explained that the three ruling houses in addition to the four auxiliary houses put together made the Gbese chieftaincy and every measure had been put in place to unite these house.

"We are only left with our brothers from the Anerge/Okai Odibayo We to come on board to make our unity processes complete. As such, we are appealing to them to put away all their differences and join in this noble cause of making Gbese strong again," he emphasised.

He emphasised that as part of the rebuilding exercise, any individual or group that had possessed property belonging to Gbese would be made to account for it.

On his part, Nii Tetteh Ankamah IV expressed his gratitude for the recognition and pledge to support the processes of restoring lasting peace to Gbese and the Ga state as a whole.
