Uganda: Museveni Urges Preservation of African Culture At Interstate Nubian Festival

30 December 2024

State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, represented President Museveni at the annual Interstate Nubian Festival in Pakwach District, Uganda.

The event brought together Nubian associations from the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Kenya, and Tanzania to celebrate their culture and heritage.

President Museveni, in a message delivered by Nyamutoro, appreciated the Nubian community for promoting unity and preserving their culture, which aligns with the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) four core principles.

"The President commended the Nubian community for fostering unity and preserving their culture, which enhances development," Nyamutoro said.

Uganda's recognition of the Nubian dialect as an independent tribe was also highlighted.

"Uganda is the only country that constitutionally recognizes the Nubian dialect as an independent tribe," Nyamutoro noted.

President Museveni emphasized the importance of safeguarding African culture, warning against the dangers of cultural assimilation.

"We should not breed 'Black Europeans' for the prosperity of Africa," he said.

The President also contributed Shs 85 million to support the successful organization of the event.

"We are grateful to the President for his cash contribution towards the successful organization of the event," Nyamutoro said.

The Interstate Nubian Festival serves as a platform for Nubian communities to come together, celebrate their heritage, and promote cultural exchange.

By supporting the event, President Museveni demonstrated his commitment to preserving African culture and promoting unity among Nubian communities.
