after all been said and done, even if the stolen or looted artefact are returned what would be the point? they wouldnt be properly taken care of and they would end up destroyed or in a terrible state since the money that would be set aside for its care would be looted by corrupt officials or politicians and they do not have trained or dedicated staff who would look after them.the state of the nation`s musuems are deplorable and the experts of the field and others are all in diaspora working in better developed countries because there is no incentive or budget for them in Nigeria and the few curators, historians or custodians left are either underpaid,on strike or would be the ones who will eventually steal them and sell to the highest bidders with the help of the very corrupt Customs.Nigeria has been looted by Nigerians in power(Military govts, politicians and Govt officials in authority) and continue to be looted by Nigerians in power and what has been done about that? The country should concentrate on getting its system in order and only after that can it be in any shape to demand and look after artefacts that were stolen.they cannot even take care of the little in their possession and yet they seek more so they will destroy them.at least even though they are in the hands of foreign museum, they are in good condition and people can see evidence of the history. In Nigeria people destroy artefacts and historical sites so they can build property.is there any historical site that still stands in the state it use to be?No!but in Europe,Asia and the middle east you still find historical sites that are preserved and standing even after hundred of years.
