From Playing for Food to Chess Champion

Nine-year old Phiona Mutesi was foraging for food in Uganda's biggest slum when she stumbled onto an opportunity that has made her a world class chess prodigy.

Phiona Mutesi began playing chess because she wanted the free meal the programme offered.
