Police Abandon Protesters, Malawi Army Takes Over

Malawi Defence Force soldiers have now taken over the role of the law enforcers at the anti-Jane Ansah protests. Protesters are demanding that Jane Ansah, the chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission, resign, for what they say is the mismanagment of the recent election in which President Peter Mutharika won a second term.

Protesters carry signs during a Jane Ansah solidarity march in Blantyre.
