South Africa Assures Africa of Its Commitment to the Continent
South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has restated his country's commitment to fostering good relations not only with Nigeria but with the rest of the African continent. During the state visit by Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari, Ramaphosa said that the African Continental Free Trade Agreement would help to grow African countries reliance on each other for trade and investment.

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor has said that a "toxic mix of socio-economic challenges", caused by the legacy of apartheid, is to blame for recent violence in some parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal which saw foreign nationals attacked and their businesses looted. The government has said that it will consider all options in response to attacks against Nigerians by South African citizens. This follows advice by former minister of external affairs, Bolaji Akinyemi who urged authorities to take South Africa to the International Criminal Court of Justice.
