Big Brother Naija - Nigeria's Unlikely PR Coup?

The reality TV show comes loaded with controversy. Conservatives oppose it as "immoral" and showcasing values that are "'un-African", while protagonists celebrate it as "good" TV material with immense entertainment value, with the occassional raunchy episode adding some more spice. The Conversation's Akinlolu Akinola and Olusola Ogunnubi conducted a study to investigate the benefits the show brings to Nigeria, beyond its entertainment value. "We wanted to test how #BBNaija has improved the portrayal of Nigeria's image abroad. Our findings suggest that it promotes Nigeria's culture, and ultimately the foreign policy goal of fostering the goodwill of people in Africa and beyond".
