Dare to Question Where Zimbabwe's Diamond Money Is Going?
China has reportedly launched an attack on Tawanda Majoni, a senior Zimbabwean journalist, accusing him of corruption and harbouring political ambitions after Majoni queried the secretive readmission of Chinese mining firm Anjin, which was booted out of the diamond fields by the late former president Robert Mugabe in 2016 for allegedly looting gems worth billions of dollars. Villagers in Manicaland's diamond rich Chiadzwa area have also expressed anger at government's decision to unilaterally grant licences to the mining firm, which is also accused of widespread worker abuse. Two years since his inauguration in August 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to live up to his pre-election promises to stabilize the economy, tackle corruption as well as respecting property and human rights.
