Chakwera Faces Backlash For Hiring Tony Blair As Malawi Advisor

Malawians are telling President Lazarus Chakwera to send back the United Kingdom's former prime minister Tony Blair who is in the country to be adviser to the new government. The Malawian government has however admitted that Blair and two other members of his Tony Blair Institute are indeed in Malawi, to provide technical expertise and help build the capacity of the Chakwera-led administration for free, but Malawians are having none of it. Chakwera is Malawi's sixth president after beating Peter Mutharika in a historic election in June 2020, marking the first time in African history that an election rerun led to the defeat of an incumbent.
