U.S.-Africa Summit Concludes with Focus on Agenda 2063 and Food

The U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit closed on Day 3 (December 15, 2022) with high-level discussions among leaders with the theme 'Partnering on Agenda 2063', the African Union's strategic vision for the continent. The concluding session, with President Joe Biden, focused on food security and food systems resilience.

Heading the delegations from 49 African countries at the three-day official event were 36 African presidents, nine prime ministers and four foreign ministers, according to a list the White House provided to AllAfrica. The administration has commited U.S.$55 billion to Africa "over the course of the next three years across a wide range of sectors to tackle the core challenges of our time," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced in a White House briefing.

Biden told the leaders to expect high-level vists in 2023, including First Lady Jill Biden. He hinted he will also visit the continent - for the first time as president. At the Business Forum, hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Corporate Council on Africa, in partnership with the Prosper Africa initiative, he announced U.S.$15 billion in two-way trade and investment commitments, deals, and partnerships that advance key priorities, including sustainable energy, health systems, agribusiness, digital connectivity, infrastructure, and finance.
