The Governors Elected Across Nigeria's States

On March 18, Nigerians came out to vote for their preferred governorship candidates across different political parties in 28 states of the federation. Results from the election exercise are now being announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The aftermath of the February 25th presidential election saw a shift in political dynamics in many states, with political parties holding onto victories despite losing to the opposition. For instance, in Lagos, the All Progressive Congress (APC) had been defeated by the Labour Party during the presidential election. However, during the governorship election held on Saturday, APC's Babajide Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner, while the Labour Party's candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, came in a distant second, reports Premium Times.

The elections were tainted by reports of voter Intimidation, hate speech, and tribal propaganda allegedly from the APC party. During election day, videos of political thugs moving around areas in Lagos and threatening voters who would not vote for the APC governorship candidate went viral.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged as a major beneficiary by winning in several states including Jigawa, Katsina, Benue, Borno, Jigawa, Niger, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Cross River Sokoto, Lagos, Gombe, Ogun, Yobe, and Kwara. On the other hand, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure a new governor in Umo Eno from Akwa Ibom State and wins in Oyo, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, Taraba, Delta, and Rivers.
