Liberia Gets First Woman Defence Minister

Rt. brigadier general Geraldine George had been serving as Deputy Chief of Staff of the army before she was honorably retired and appointed as a deputy minister of cefense by President Joseph Boakai. Her ascendency to the top post, albeit in an acting capacity, was brought about after the resignation of Defense Minister Prince Johnson, who resigned after protests against his nomination by army wives.
