Gunmen Kidnap Over 100 People in Nigeria's Kaduna State

At least 100 people, including women and children, were abducted by gunmen in two separate attacks over the weekend in Kaduna state. Residents said armed men dressed in army uniforms arrived in the village undetected because they had parked their motorbikes away from the village.

The abductions come after an armed gang seized 286 students and staff from a school in early March in Kuriga in Kaduna state and gunmen seized 61 people on March 12 in the Buda community. The abductors of the school children are demanding a ransom of $621,848 and threatened to kill all of the students if their demands are not met.

Kidnappings, often carried out by criminal gangs and militant organizations seeking ransom payments, have become alarmingly frequent in Nigeria, particularly in the northern areas.
