Nigeria Struggles to End Killings By Militant Groups

Dozens of people were killed over the weekend when armed men attacked a village in Katsina state in northern Nigeria, according to reports. Police say the attackers, wielding dangerous weapons, killed inhabitants of the Gidan Boka village, as well as security personnel who responded to the assault.

These incidents have been a recurring theme in Nigeria since Boko Haram began carrying out large-scale acts of violence in 2009. Despite President Bola Tinubu's promise during his campaign last year to end the problem of insecurity, pundits say he failed to do so with "almost all parts of the country still suffering one form of insecurity or the other" one year into his presidency.
