South African Group Demands Adetshina's Pageant Disqualification

The Progressive Forces of South Africa have launched a petition to prevent Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina from competing in the international pageant because she and her Mozambican-born mother may be charged with identity theft. The group said allowing her to participate would compromise Miss Universe's integrity.

This comes after the Department of Home Affairs announced that Adetshina and her mother's South African identity and travel documents would be revoked after they failed to prove their validity.

The petition has garnered more than 1,182 signatures. This is the second time South Africans have petitioned to stop Adetshina from participating in a beauty pageant. Following her withdrawal from the Miss SA pageant, Adetshina was invited to compete in the Miss Universe competition, where she won.
