South Africa, Nigeria Forge Stronger Economic and Tourism Ties

Nigeria and South Africa reaffirmed their commitment to deepening long-standing ties during the 11th Bi-National Commission Session in Cape Town. The two countries have shared historical relations dating back to colonialism and apartheid.

A key focus of the South Africa-Nigeria Business Roundtable was strengthening economic cooperation, addressing trade challenges, and unlocking the full potential of bilateral trade and investment. They enjoy strong diplomatic ties and are well-positioned to collaborate in sectors like energy, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals.

To strengthen bilateral relations and boost economic cooperation, South Africa has approved a new visa regime that grants Nigerians multiple-entry visas valid for five years. Travel between the two countries will be made easier under the new policy, which allows tourists to apply for visas without the need to submit their passports.

Meanwhile, Nigeria wants South Africa to support its bid to become a G20 member and a member of BRICS. South Africa assumed the G20 presidency on December 1.
