South Africa's 2025 Govt Budget Moved for First Time in 30 Years

In an unprecedented move, the 2025 Budget Speech has been rescheduled for March 12, after initially being postponed due to disagreements within the Government of National Unity (GNU). Several parties within the GNU disagreed with the budget proposals.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana had signaled the need for a VAT hike and the release of details of the increase triggered backlash within the coalition government. The delay marks the first time in South Africa's democratic history that a budget has been postponed due to internal disagreements.
