Rights Groups Warn Against Reprisals In Sudan Amid 'Mass Trials'

Human rights groups have warned against the use of the courts as a political tool of reprisal as the authorities begin mass trials of suspected collaborators of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Recent advances by the Sudanese Armed Forces have led to the recapture of large swathes of territories, including EL  El Gezira, where hundeds of people are being tried on accusations of working with the RSF.

Local and international rights groups have expressed fear the sheer number of cases and the speed of the prosecutions indicate a "political purge rather than due process".
