Sudan Army Retakes Presidential Palace As Fighting Intensifies

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reportedly retaken the Republican Palace, the official residence of the country's head of state, as SAF pushes with its offensive to capture parts of the capital, Khartoum.

Fighting is also taking place in other areas of the country - including in North Darfur and North Kordofan - where Rapid Support Forces militia have been accused of razing dozens of villages to the ground. Scores of civilians have been killed in the latest fighting, including volunteer workers.

The army lost most of Khartoum early in the war, which began in April 2023 following a power struggle between the leaders that made up a transitional goverrnment.
