Nigeria's Fela Kuti Receives Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

Three decades after his death, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has made history as the first African artist to receive a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Recording Academy said that Fela is being honored posthumously for his contribution to modern Nigerian Afrobeats and for inspiring many global singers. Fela's radical blend of politics, performance, and pan-African groove still drives contemporary culture as Afrobeats dominates worldwide charts.
