A strong believer in the protection of children's rights, Archbishop Desmond Tutu emphasized the injustice in the world when it comes to the extremely different circumstances children grow up in. He spoke about the responsibility of adults for children in the world. He also spoke about people needing to respect each other. The world was not created for people to discriminate each other and not care about their environment. We need to care more; about each other, our children and the world at large.

During the KidsRights MDGs Conference on July 9 2010 speakers like Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, former President F.W. de Klerk and Mrs. Graça Machel, highlighted the importance of achieving the Millennium Development Goals for children in the areas of poverty, health and education. Both participants and speakers were very enthusiastic and otherwise positive about the whole day and the outcome; the Johannesburg Call to Action.

The Johannesburg Call to Action urges world leaders to take immediate actions to reach the MDGs, especially those that effect children. KidsRights has put the Call to Action into action by offering it to the UN for the UN MDG Summit, 20-22 September.
